In the late 1950s, Ethiopia's capital, Addis Abeba, was regarded as the unofficial capital of Africa. Addis Abeba, between 2,300 and 2,500 metres above sea level, is the hihgest capital in Africa and the third highest in the world.
Set in rising countryside against the picturesque backdrop of the Entoto mountain range, the city boasts an even climate with sunshine nearly all year round; daytime temperatures rarely exceed 22°C for much of the year.
